Sudhir Nandgaonkar, the veteran film scholar, critic, and founder of Prabhat Film Board, has passed away at the age of 84. For more than 50 years he was looking after the work of the Prabhat Film Board. He was sick for the last few days and finally breathed his last today at 5 pm at Majiwada.
Sudhir Nandgaonkar has contributed a lot to popularizing films among common people. He spent his entire life connecting Marathi fans with cinema. His name is weighty in the entertainment industry due to his quality and hard-hitting writing and great studies in the film industry. Everyone is expressing the feeling that a true scholar and fan of films have been lost due to his demise.
Nandgaonkar always strived to increase people’s taste in movies and how to make the audience enjoy the best movies. Nandgaonkar promoted the film medium through various movements and activities of the Prabhat Film Board. He has worked as an examiner in many film festivals. Mami Festival was conceived by Nandgaonkar himself.
Nandgaonkar laid the foundation of what is currently being taught in big institutes under the name of ‘Film Appreciation’. Prabhat Chitra Mandal, some other organizations and all film lovers were saddened by the demise of this true fan who loved the medium of film and promoted it to the common people.
